The top photo is the Olinda team pre WW1 and although it’s labelled 1910 we now believe it’s actually from 1912 when photos of a number of different teams were taken.
Below this pic is a photo of Ferny Creek United- we can see the initials FCU on some jumpers. Again we have no firm indication of what year the picture was taken although we know FCU was abbreviated to Ferny Creek post WW1.
We have one confirmed identity in the FCU photo- Les Storrie is third from left in the middle row. As we know the Storrie family ran a coach service to Upper Fern Tree Gully from their premises in Sassafras. The Storries retained control of this building until around the turn of the 20th century. Currently the building is a Post Office with a cafe adjoining.
Now to the 1910 flag. Suffice to say we have no clear evidence that Olinda actually won the premiership that year but it’s widely believed we finished on top of the ladder which was the requirement for clubs awarded a flag.
